History of the universe and the earth

The universe as we know it today did not come into being in a flash. Evolution began many billions of years ago with what we call the Big Bang.

The Big Bang is a theory about the beginning and evolution of the universe It is a theory, that is, no one can be 100 per cent sure that this is how it happened. But scientists have been studying the universe for a long time now and have gathered a lot of information and evidence to support the Big Bang theory.

According to the theory, all matter in the universe was in an extremely small, dense and hot point. Based on the name “The Big Bang” one would think that it exploded, but it is perhaps more accurate to say that it began to expand with incredible speed. This happened about 13, 7 billion years ago, but the universe has continued to expand and expand ever since.

This is how our own solar system once arose about 4.6 billion years ago – and the earth we live on.
